  • Degrassi Recap: 'The World I Know'

    Posted on 01/29/2014 by Rachel1016

Last night, we kicked off Degrassi's winter chapter with an unforgettable premiere episode. If you haven't seen "The World I Know" yet, catch up on the full episode online, then check out recap where we break down everything that happened.

    Degrassi: The World I Know

    BUT…I'M EVERYONE'S TYPE
At the end of last chapter, Clare and Drew briefly shared a kiss (or, as Drew put it, something in between a make-out and a kiss) that may or may not have signaled a few "OH NO THEY DIDN'T!"s around the world. After the smooch, Drew quickly assumed that Clare was deeply in love with him, obviously.

    Degrassi: The World I Know

But as Drew approached Clare to "let her down easy," she didn't quite pick up what he was puttin' down. In fact, she made it clear that the kiss was a terrible mistake, that she's still very much in love with Eli, and that Drew is straight up deluded (no really, she used that word). A little surprised to find Clare not head over-heels-in-love after their lip lock, Drew consulted Dallas, who, in typical Dallas fashion, encouraged Drew to find a rebound girl. Oh, brother. Wonder who that will be? Anyone care to place some bets?

Anyway, while Drew was nursing his bruised ego, he was simultaneously trying to impress Mr. Hollingsworth (Miles' father), who visited Degrassi to deliver a speech about his campaign for mayor. Luckily, Drew was able to charm Mr. Hollingsworth, and scored an interview for the youth advisor of his campaign. Aw, look at that, Drew might slowly be getting his mojo back.

    Degrassi: The World I Know

    NOT THE RUBBER ROOM!
After being suspended from school for threatening Zoe's life (in a song), Maya had to complete her punishment in the Remedial Room, aka the infamous "Rubber Room." Maya wasn't too excited about it to begin with, but things went downhill when newcomer punk girl, Grace, made it clear she thought Maya was a total "princess" with a chip on her shoulder. Ouch! Yeah, Maya might have some trouble fitting in.

The students in the Remedial Room got assigned a character interview project, in which they were paired up and instructed to interview each other, as each other. By some stroke of luck, Maya got paired with her former almost-flame (and total bad-boy) Zig, and *PAUSE* things are about to get interesting.

    Degrassi: The World I Know

For the new or rusty Degrassians out there, here's a quick background on Maya and Zig's complicated relationship: In Season 11, Maya had a crush on Zig, but didn't realize her feelings until Zig got back with his then-girlfriend, Tori. Maya eventually moved on with Cam when Zig started to have feelings for Maya again. But when Cam devastatingly took his own life, Zig blamed himself for telling Cam to get out of Maya's life and Maya had serious trouble coping with the loss. When she was finally being able to express her grief, Maya started to have feelings for Zig again, but said she wasn't ready to be in a relationship. Zig told her he would wait for her, and it seemed like they would eventually find their way back to each other. But over the summer, Maya met Miles Hollingsworth III and, you know, #Matlingsworth happened. When Zig came back, though, he made it clear he didn't forget their promise.

When the two sat down to work on their assignment, Zig started to talk about the Roman legend, Brutus, who famously betrayed his friend Caesar, and who, in this case, we're pretty sure represents Maya's forgotten promise. So, Zig is a little hostile! That much we know! But he took it to the next level when it came time to present their assignment: While impersonating Maya, he made fun of her and pretty much laid out their baggage for everyone in the class to see. Maya quickly fired back, and Zig walked out. Oof.

Sodoes this mean a Zaya comeback is in the works? Should we prepare for one of the most epic love triangles of all Degrassi time?!

    Degrassi: The World I Know

    ALLI AND LEO
Alli was getting ready to celebrate her birthday when she received some bad news from Leo. His transfer credits from France didn't come through, preventing him from obtaining a student visa and ultimately forcing him to the leave the country. Leo, wary of the stress that long distance relationships inevitably cause, insisted that it would be best if they broke up. But Alli, not ready to give up on the man she loves, had a crazy idea: marriage.

    Degrassi: The World I Know

Despite Jenna and Clare's caution against making such a hasty decision, Alli and Leo booked it to City Hall to tie the knot. Moments after they became husband and wife, however, Alli and Leo got into an argument about her not telling her parents. Leo became convinced that Alli was ashamed of him and his temper escalated to new, devastating heights.

    Degrassi: The World I Know

As they argued in the car, Leo struck Alli multiple times in the head to the point where she fell out of the passenger seat and was left bruised and bleeding on the side of the road.

Alli returned home to a surprise birthday party that Jenna, Clare and her parents threw for her. As she walked in the door, severely injured, they rushed to her with utter shock and concern, and when they asked what happened, Alli lied and claimed she was mugged.

Over the past two chapters, we've watched Alli continue to go back to Leo despite his previous outbursts. Now, the consequences of her choices have reached a truly devastating conclusion. Alli has a long road ahead of her, for sure, but her story is a powerful reminder that relationship abuse is a very serious issue. Abuse is never justified, and it's important to remember that we do have the power to make our own choices. If you or anyone you know is in an abusive relationship, know that you are not alone -- go to loveisrespect.org for help, or call 1.866.331.9474 at any time.

  • Catch Up On Season 13 Of Degrassi!

    Posted on 01/22/2014 by Rachel1016

We're gearing up for all-new episodes of Degrassi on Tuesday, January 28th at 9pm ET, and if there's one thing we know about this show, a lot can happen in a short period of time. As much as we wish our real lives didn't get in the way of Degrassi, it can be difficult to, y'know, keep up with everything!

So, before we sit down for a fresh batch of drama, let's take a look at all of the major events that precede this brand new chapter. And while you're catching up on episodes from the summer and fall (check them out right HERE!), here's a breakdown of everything you need to know about Degrassi Season 13 so far!

    Degrassi: Mid-Season Recap

    RIP ADAM TORRES
At the end of last summer, we said goodbye to Degrassi favorite, Adam Torres. Adam passed away from injuries sustained in a fatal car crash, which happened because he was texting and driving.

    Degrassi: Mid-Season Recap

Not long before the accident, Adam kissed Imogen and felt guilty because he (technically) cheated on his girlfriend, Becky Baker. It was a heart-wrenching, tear-jerking, unforgettable episode, but we cherish those memories of Adam's infectious spirit and take away one valuable lesson: No matter what, it can wait.

    Degrassi: Mid-Season Recap

    THE END OF DRIANCA
After getting engaged in Season 12, Bianca returned from University with a change of heart toward Drew. Right before Thanksgiving, she called off both the engagement and the relationship in a breakup that Winston affectionately (or not-so-affectionately) termed a "Turkey Dump."

Since committing to Bianca, it seemed as though Drew had mended his previously questionable ways with women, but we have to wonder if his new single status will find him returning to bad-boy behavior.

    Degrassi: Mid-Season Recap

    ECLARE SCARE
While away at New York University, Eli cheated on Clare with Leonor, a girl he met in one of this film classes. *Yes, cue the collective weeping of every Degrassi fan EVER* Clare was unsurprisingly heartbroken, and essentially (but unofficially) broke up with Eli when he returned home for Thanksgiving.

    Degrassi: Mid-Season Recap

Even though the future of their relationship was unclear, it didn't take long for Clare to ignore her own judgment and kiss Drew (yes, that Drew). And of course, almost immediately after her moment of weakness, Eli gave Clare a heartfelt apology. The good news: Eli and Clare made up. But the bad news: Clare might have to face being the unfaithful one now.

    Degrassi: Mid-Season Recap

    THE MAYA AND MILES SITUATION
Ah, the hookup we waited for since the first minute of the season premiere. Literally! As Maya walked into Degrassi and got caught off-guard by Miles' dreamy stare, she downright pummeled that trifold. And in that moment, we knew #Mayales was imminent.

They had quite the journey to ship-dom, though, having gone through periods of time when they were either involved with someone else (Miles and Zoe dated for a hot sec), had to honor allegiances to friends (Maya's BFF Tristan had a thing for Miles for a hot sec), remembered old flames (Maya and Zig have history), or just generally butting heads (sexual tension).

But these two finally got together. After Maya got suspended for singing a kiss-off song about her nemesis Zoe, Miles sneaked over to her window and… they kissed! Now we want to see them continue strong through the upcoming winter chapter!

    Degrassi: Mid-Season Recap

    ZOE'S ANTICS
Even though Zoe Rivas was a Degrassi newcomer at the beginning this season, the TV-star-turned-mean-girl wasted no time making quite the first impression among her peers. From laying claim over Miles and being caught in an EPIC feud with Maya, to blackmailing Drew into being her date to the dance, Zoe is pretty much the nucleus of Degrassi drama. She's relentless, she's bold, and she's only just getting started! But will she be able to find her place at Degrassi this season? Or will she just continue to leave a trail of embers in her wake…

    Degrassi: Mid-Season Recap

    ALLI AND LEO'S COMPLICATED LOVE
Alli met her Parisian boyfriend, Leo during Degrassi's summer trip to France. Their love story was the stuff of fairy tales until… well, it wasn't. Despite being a total smooth operator and making Alli fall for him deeply, Leo's jealousy had a tendency to turn violent.

    Degrassi: Mid-Season Recap

During a heated conversation about some texts from Dallas, Leo grabbed Alli's arm with enough force to bruise her. After the altercation, Alli left Paris and Leo behind, but he traveled to Degrassi to try to apologize and win her back. He somehow proved to be the charmer she remembered from France, and Alli forgave him for getting physical with her.

    Degrassi: Mid-Season Recap

But before long, it happened again. And this time he slapped her. In a move that surprised everyone, she forgave him again under the condition that he would go to therapy. It remains to be seen whether or not Leo has really changed this time. Will Alli finally see his true colors? Will there be any chance of Dallas coming into the picture? Or will her story play out tragically like many before her?

We have so many predictions for this upcoming action-packed chapter, but we want to hear from you! What do you all think will happen? Sound off in the comments! And don't forget, all new episodes return Tuesday, January 28th at 9pm ET

I hate going from volleyball practice to a friend's house while looking like a slob, but I don't always have time to completely change outfits. Do you have any suggestions for cute transition outfits?

I always have this problem, but with going out after the gym! My suggestion? LEGGINGS. Leggings are fashion's gift to the world. You can go from home, to work out, to the mall and back again with them on. They look clean cut and are comfortable to top it off!

Coming from practice? Pack a cute sweater to change into after and tie your hair back in a neat pony. Spritz a little perfume on and you're ready to go! But ladies, remember…when wearing leggings, always (and I'm talking ALWAYS) wear a longer shirt to cover that booty!

What is one item of clothing or an accessory you would never be caught dead wearing?

Oh wow. I think I could go on for days with this question!!! And I'm not sure that's a good thing! I would never ever ever be caught dead wearing those rubber slippers (CROCS)!!! Although, when we film Degrassi, all the girls wear them in between scenes... Yes they are comfortable! But they are not cute people!! Even on set when someone takes a photo of us, I always take them off for the photo. I cannot stand them!

Another fashion DON'T for me: pajama pants... in public! Why do people still do this?! Throw on a pair of leggings! Come on!

The photo below is one of Imogen's outfits. Can you spot those ugly slippers?

  • Style 101 With Cristine Prosperi: Time To Boot Up!

Posted on 12/16/2013 by Cristine Prosperi

    Style 101 With Cristine Prosperi

There are so many cute styles of boots but I don't know how to pair them with outfits! What types of boots go best with pants vs. skirts and dresses?

I can see how this could get tricky! Lucky for us, there are so many different styles of boots to choose from these days! Boots have become such a staple in people's wardrobes. In my opinion, it's always good to have booties, knee high boots and a motorcycle boot.

I used to be a little frightened about wearing any style of boots with skirts, but these days you can totally pull that off. When wearing a skirt I would probably wear booties with a small heel. Or if it's a little colder outside throw on a pair of leggings and knee high boots. For knee highs, I would suggest getting a tighter boot so they hug your calves!

I always wear my hair down and am bored with it, what are some easy hairstyles that I can start doing to amp up my look?

Good question! I've always said my mood reflects on how good my hair looks!! So lately I have been trying out new hairstyles. Sometimes it's a bit of a hassle to style it perfectly and take the time to curl it. My motto... The messier the better! If you wake up with a bad hair day, there's nothing a little teasing can't fix. Teasing creates volume and volume is hot!

Have a little more time? Curl SOME pieces of your hair to add a beach wave effect. Then gently run your fingers through your hair so the waves don't look so styled!

P.S. Curls look better the second day, so you don't need to wash your hair the day after. SCORE! Another quick easy style... Slicked back ponytail. Nothing looks more professional then a neat pony to show off that beautiful face!

    What's your go-to makeup product?

I don't wear a lot of makeup, but when I do my fav product is a great concealer, which I mostly use under my eyes. Sometimes, a lack of sleep or even just stress can really enhance those under-eye bags. Using concealer just brightens up your whole makeup look!

You can also use concealer to contour your face, but don't forget to blend it in! Whether you need to brighten under-eye circles or cover redness and blemishes, it always does the trick. Annie Clark (a.k.a Fiona Coyne) actually passed this tip along to me. I never go anywhere without bringing it! It's a life saver.
