  • Ten Awesomely Ridiculous Locker Decorations From Your Fave TeenNick Shows

    Posted on 08/25/2014 by Rachel1016

This week in TeenNick Back-To-School fun, we're talking lockers. These skinny pad-locked cubbies are so special because they're the one place in all of school that you can make your own. And even though most school's policies would never allow the extreme locker makeover we all deserve, we can't help but get totally inspired by these out-of-this-world decorations from shows like Ned's Declassified School Survival Guide, Victorious! and iCarly. Check 'em out!

    SHE NOSE WHAT'S UP

    Locker Decorations

Lisa from Ned's Declassified always had the sniffles. Thankfully, her locker was well-stocked with all the remedies she could ever need.

    LOCKER EYE CANDY

    Locker Decorations

Can't argue with Mosely's classic celeb crush-adorned locker design.

    MAKE IT SHINE

    Locker Decorations

Some of the lockers that came out of Hollywood Arts High School on Victorious! were truly insane. I mean, look at that paint job!

    ALOHA!

    Locker Decorations

What's that behind Andre and Beck? Oh, just a tiki hula scene and a full-on keyboard. NBD.

    ABSTRACT LOCKER

    Locker Decorations

    One word: Spoons.

    ENTER IF YOU DARE

    Locker Decorations

Beware, there might be a haunted house in this locker.

    I CAN SEE YOUR LUNCH

    Locker Decorations

You know, pal, your locker is your space. You do you.

    THE CAT'S MEOW

    Locker Decorations

No one ever complained about a kitten-ified locker. Ever.

IS THAT WHAT I THINK IT IS?

    Locker Decorations

You may remember this was actually Ned's locker, cluttered with Post-It notes and a baby doll (from a Home Ec assignment). You'd think he'd be able to take his own advice about locker organization, riiight?

    THE ULTIMATE LOCKER

    Locker Decorations

This. Remember when Sam and Freddy won Special Locker 239 on iCarly? We gotta say, this crazy locker takes the cake. It's the size of three (count 'em, three!) lockers and comes complete with a plasma screen and microwave. So next-level.

Which ones are your faves? How do you kick your locker decorations up a notch? Let's hear it in the comments!
  • TeenNick Top 10 Fresh Artist Interview: Colette Carr

    Posted on 08/22/2014 by TeenNickBlogger

    Fresh Artist: Colette Carr

    Credit: Jared Thomas Kocka

Colette Carr has a fuse, and it's about to go off. This sassy spitfire rapper is not afraid to use her voice to send a message, and that's exactly why she's our newest TeenNick Top 10 Fresh Artist. We caught up with the girl behind the hit song "HAM" to learn a little more about her background, her exciting career and how a certain Snow White costume used to be a staple of her wardrobe. (What?!) Check it out below!

    1. As both a singer and a rapper, did you discover one talent before the other? Or have you always done both?

I discovered I could rap in high school when my ex-boyfriend decided he wanted to freestyle battle with kids after school. He was so ummmm...not great/terrible that I started ghost writing for him. I fell in love with free-styling and rap. I didn't know I could sing until I started working on my album "The Skitszo Collection". The first time I really sang was in the studio with FrankMusik recording songs like Killswitch, F16, Delusional, Hearsay & No ID.

    2. What is one moment in your career so far that has made you wonder, "How did I get here?"

Anytime I'm on stage and the crowd gets their hands up without me even asking them to, or know the lyrics to my songs and sing/scream along it's like an out-of-body experience. I know exactly how I got here though, it's been a long, crazy, difficult journey. Definitely collaborating with guys like e40 and TechN9ne, legends I grew up listening to, bumping tracks in the studio with them, and having them feature on my songs because they love my sound, those moments are very surreal "how did I get here" moments.

    3. You've cited Eminem as a musical influence. What do you admire most about him? Are there any other art forms that inspire you??

Eminem and Dr. Dre were the first hip hop artists I ever listened to, I was tiny and obsessed. I learned all the lyrics to the clean versions of their albums. The way Eminem tells his life stories and paints pictures with words that rhyme seamlessly, it's intimidatingly good, I can't get enough. I love all forms of art. On my days off I like to finger paint.

    4. Many of your videos show off your fearless sense of personal style. How important is fashion when you're performing? Where do you get your style inspiration?

It's weird, I never think about "fashion" or clothes, or personal style. When I was in preschool I wore a Snow White costume with mix-matched Chuck Taylor's everyday, my mom was worried about me. I don't really think before I get dressed, I usually grab clothes in a hurry. I just throw on a Pikachu beanie, some sneakers and run out the door. When I write my video treatments I already know exactly what I want to look like to portray my lyrics or the overall mood of the song, so choosing the outfits is the easy part.

I hand made the cake dress for my "HAM" video, [and] I actually hand make and design a lot of the stuff I wear. Fashion is a form of expressing myself therefor it is important to me, although I wouldn't mind wearing a bath robe and pajamas everyday.

    5. What are you looking forward to most in the next phase of your career? Is there any one thing you're determined to conquer?

I am MOST excited about continuing to tour and meet/hangout with fans/goers after my shows. I love being on stage and in the studio writing and creating. My favorite though, is making music videos! I can't wait to pick a single, record a music video for it and share it with the world. The next phase of my career will be epic. It will be better than chocolate Nutella on a warm piece of toast, mark my words. :)

  • TeenNick Top 10 Fresh Artist Interview: Katy Tiz

    Posted on 08/08/2014 by TeenNickBlogger

    Fresh Artist: Katy Tiz

    Credit: Atlantic

It's official. We love Katy Tiz. She's a super talented songstress from the UK (currently holding it down in the U.S. of A), and if you haven't heard of her yet, listen up. Katy's hit single "The Big Bang" is a funky, sassy tune that's every bit '20s swing band as it is straight-up pop. Her voice is a perfect mix of Adele and Fergie, but at the same time something new and unforgettable. We caught up with our newest Fresh Artist to learn a little more about her background and career. Check it out below!

    1. Congratulations on signing with Atlantic Records! After releasing music independently for some time, how does it feel to make it with such a big name label?

It's AMAZING!! I still wake up everyday and have a little scream... It can get a little awkward when I'm alone and walking down the street... ;)

    2. You're originally from the UK but have recently been spending a lot of time around the US. What has been your favorite city to visit so far?

Wow! That's a hard one, I fell in love with Chicago, Seattle, San fransisco and many more! I'm so lucky to travel and get to visit all the places. I do love anywhere with high buildings. I'm all about a view.

    3. What made you want to pursue music? Has singing always been your passion?

Music has always been a huge part of my life. It's helped me through some rough patches. I was a late bloomer at 18, but my dream is to help others the way music has helped me. This is what has made me chase my passion.

    4. If you had the chance to do a musical collab with any artist, who would it be and why?

Hmmmmmmmm... Well I was lucky enough to go and see Justin Timberlake in concert this weekend [interview conducted in July] and he was incredible so I would have to say him! #fangirlmoment

  • Q&A With August HALO Effect Honoree Tim Balz

    Posted on 08/05/2014 by TeenNickBlogger

    HALO Effect: Tim Balz

"Helping is more than our hobby," reads the slogan for Freedom Chairs, a non-profit organization that transforms old wheelchairs for those in need.

Since the organization began, founder and CEO Tim Balz has combined his technical robotic skills with his inventive spirit to give the gift of mobility in his hometown of Indiana and beyond. Check out our exclusive Q&A with the August HALO Effect Honoree, and learn more about Tim's incredibly inspiring story!

What inspired you to begin your organization Freedom Chairs? How did you come to focus on this specific cause?
During my sophomore year of high school I noticed a student named Steven Scholl who was stuck in the hallway because he was unable to move his manual wheelchair. I got in contact with his parents and asked why he wasn't using an electric wheelchair, and they said that his insurance denied the request because he wasn't "disabled enough." I tried to fix a wheelchair that my neighbor gave me to play with on our FIRST Robotics team, but it turned out to be unfix-able. I was determined to help my new friend Steven so I traded my moped for a wheelchair that was repairable. I customized the wheelchair to be exactly what Steven needed and gave it to him just before he graduated. The smile he had when we gave him the wheelchair was so incredible that I developed a passion for helping people in similar situations to Steven, and that's how Freedom Chairs started.

How has Freedom Chairs grown since it started in 2011?
Freedom Chairs has given away more than 85 wheelchairs since we started in 2011. We have dozens of wheelchairs in our workshop and have work days nearly every weekend to repair and rebuild wheelchairs.

What is the process that goes into building a Freedom Chair? What kinds of features does a typical wheelchair have?
When we get an old chair donated to us, it is typically in pretty poor condition. We tear the chair down and repair anything that isn't in like-new condition, and rebuild it to make is as though the recipient gets a brand new chair. A typical wheelchair will have an assortment of features ranging from power seating to lights and turn signals. We have even gotten a few chairs that use head control for someone who is paralyzed.

How did you learn how to customize these electric wheelchairs?
I learned to customize the wheelchairs through the skills I gained in FIRST Robotics, and the countless hours spent tinkering with the chairs that were donated. I would try to understand how and why everything worked on the chair.

With Freedom Chairs, you saw a peer in need and took action. What advice would you give to someone who has a desire to help others, but doesn't know where to start?
If someone has a desire to help others, the most important advice that I can give is to look for ways to make a difference, because not everyone in need has a voice. Volunteering for community service through school clubs is how I got started helping others, so that is a great place to start. The biggest thing is to never let people convince you that someone else will come along and fill a need that you find.

  • Fashion Inspiration For The Last 5 Seconds of Summer!

    Posted on 08/04/2014 by TeenNickBlogger

Don't let those premature "Back To School" commercials get you down, there's still plenty of summer left! And no one knows this better than the poster boys of summer themselves, Luke, Michael, Calum and Ashton of 5 Seconds of Summer!

The TeenNick Top 10 Fresh Artists have taken this season by storm with their music, and we've all fallen in love with them about as much as the warm-weather vacation itself. But did you know that these boys are style taste-makers, too? Sure, they might be better known for their cute faces than their fashion, but we're sensing some serious sartorial (SAT word!) patterns. Before the days get too short, check out a few of the trends the boys have been rocking and make the best out of your last 5 Seconds of Summer!

    NOTHIN' BUT A HAIR FLIP-FLOP

Bassist Michael Clifford is known for his chameleonic hair changes. From blonde to brown to bright green, there's no color he can't rock. So who's to say a little tonsorial switch-up isn't in your future? If it's just a little temporary neon streak, go bold with some unexpected colors.

    I'M WITH THE BAND

    5 Seconds of Summer

The 5SOS boys are all about paying homage to the legendary bands that have influenced them, and these days you don't even have to go to a concert to nab a band tee. Head over to your local vintage shop (or your parents' closet!) and pop on a T-shirt to celebrate your favorite rockers! Extra points for 5SOS T-shirts, of course.

    HATS OFF TO YOU

    5 Seconds of Summer

Hats might seem like a pretty obvious summer staple, but there are always new and fresh ways to shield the summer rays. Take it from Ashton and Calum! Pork pie hats or snap backs, a topper is a great way to upgrade your ensemble. But the question remains... Are you brave enough to rock a beanie in August?

DON'T MEAN TO CUT YOU OFF...

    5 Seconds of Summer

    Credit: Getty Images

Late-summer temperatures can be brutal, so minimizing the amount of material you throw on your back seems like a logical solution to the oppressive heat, right? Right. Well, if you haven't already noticed, the boys of 5SOS really, realllly love their cutoff tees. Ahhh, let the air flow in, boys...

    HOLE-Y MOLY!

    5 Seconds of Summer

Speaking of extra ventilation, the worn-in, distressed look (as seen here by Calum and Ashton) actually has very practical applications. We're not totally sure how those holes got there (did they pay extra for them? Do they need to switch their laundry detergent? Was a tiger or other ferocious wild animal somehow involved?), but it's a ~lewk~ nonetheless. And we ~lurve~ it.

What's your favorite 5SOS style? Which one would you adapt to make your own? Let us know in the comments!
