  • Fashion Inspiration For The Last 5 Seconds of Summer!

    Posted on 08/04/2014 by TeenNickBlogger

Don't let those premature "Back To School" commercials get you down, there's still plenty of summer left! And no one knows this better than the poster boys of summer themselves, Luke, Michael, Calum and Ashton of 5 Seconds of Summer!

The TeenNick Top 10 Fresh Artists have taken this season by storm with their music, and we've all fallen in love with them about as much as the warm-weather vacation itself. But did you know that these boys are style taste-makers, too? Sure, they might be better known for their cute faces than their fashion, but we're sensing some serious sartorial (SAT word!) patterns. Before the days get too short, check out a few of the trends the boys have been rocking and make the best out of your last 5 Seconds of Summer!

    NOTHIN' BUT A HAIR FLIP-FLOP

Bassist Michael Clifford is known for his chameleonic hair changes. From blonde to brown to bright green, there's no color he can't rock. So who's to say a little tonsorial switch-up isn't in your future? If it's just a little temporary neon streak, go bold with some unexpected colors.

    I'M WITH THE BAND

The 5SOS boys are all about paying homage to the legendary bands that have influenced them, and these days you don't even have to go to a concert to nab a band tee. Head over to your local vintage shop (or your parents' closet!) and pop on a T-shirt to celebrate your favorite rockers! Extra points for 5SOS T-shirts, of course.

    HATS OFF TO YOU

Hats might seem like a pretty obvious summer staple, but there are always new and fresh ways to shield the summer rays. Take it from Ashton and Calum! Pork pie hats or snap backs, a topper is a great way to upgrade your ensemble. But the question remains... Are you brave enough to rock a beanie in August?

DON'T MEAN TO CUT YOU OFF...

Late-summer temperatures can be brutal, so minimizing the amount of material you throw on your back seems like a logical solution to the oppressive heat, right? Right. Well, if you haven't already noticed, the boys of 5SOS really, realllly love their cutoff tees. Ahhh, let the air flow in, boys...

    HOLE-Y MOLY!

Speaking of extra ventilation, the worn-in, distressed look (as seen here by Calum and Ashton) actually has very practical applications. We're not totally sure how those holes got there (did they pay extra for them? Do they need to switch their laundry detergent? Was a tiger or other ferocious wild animal somehow involved?), but it's a ~lewk~ nonetheless. And we ~lurve~ it.

What's your favorite 5SOS style? Which one would you adapt to make your own? Let us know in the comments!

  • Degrassi Finale Recap: 'Thunderstruck' Parts 1 + 2

    Posted on 07/30/2014 by TeenNickBlogger

Is it really true? We've wrapped up another season of Degrassi? It feels like just yesterday we met Zoe, Winston and Miles for the first time, but it sure has been a wild ride! And last night's one-hour finale was no exception, as a storm caused a dramatic downpour at the Degrassi dance (say that three times fast) and made us really, really excited for Season 14. Hopefully you've caught up on "Thunderstruck" Parts 1 & 2 online because we have lots to discuss!

    Degrassi: Thunderstruck

Because of someone named Shmaya Shmatlin, both Miles and Tristan decided to skip the dance. Instead, they set out to have the Best Bro Date Ever at Miles' house. But when the power went out in the midst of the thunderstorm, Miles, Tristan, Frankie and Winston decided it was time for an epic game of Murder. But the game really started to heat up when Miles found Tristan's hiding place and Tristan said, "Come any closer, and I'll kiss you."

    Degrassi: Thunderstruck

    Miles said, "Go ahead."

    Degrassi: Thunderstruck

Since Becky was having a hard time in the aftermath of the trial, Drew swooped in to comfort her. It wasn't really clear whether or not he was interested in her as more than a friend, but once the storm unleashed its wrath upon campus, thiiiiings started to happen.

    Degrassi: Thunderstruck

While the whole school took shelter, Becky freaked everyone out by hiding out alone in the boiler room. When Drew finally found her there, the door locked behind them and they were trapped. A mysterious toxic gas started to leak from one the pipes (LOL "Did you fart?") and it started going to their heads.

    Degrassi: Thunderstruck

One thing lead to another, and they kissed. ...Becky and Drew kissed.

    Degrassi: Thunderstruck

Meanwhile, Maya went to war with Zoe about everything that had happened in the past few months. She drunkenly accused Zoe of stealing all her "people" (Tristan... Miles... Zig...) and ran away into the storm in a fit of anger. But it seemed like Zoe, after everything that happened between them, genuinely wanted to work it out. So she followed her into the tempest.

    Degrassi: Thunderstruck

The storm was so violent, however, that Zoe had to break into The Dot so she and Maya could take cover. It was kind of a blessing in disguise, though, because being trapped together finally gave 'em an opportunity to work it out. Yep, Zoe and Maya decided to be on the same team for once (...and we're so glad because they harmonize realllllly well together).

In New York, Clare soaked up the city before her Columbia interview. After exploring the sights and roaming the different NYC neighborhoods, nothing could bring her down.

    Degrassi: Thunderstruck

    Until something did.

    Degrassi: Thunderstruck

What Clare thought was a fateful Eli-spotting brought her face-to-face with a pole and landed her in the Emergency Room. Her admissions interview would have to wait.

    Degrassi: Thunderstruck

Which brings us to this. Clare got her interview rescheduled for the morning, and in need of a place to crash for the night, she called Eli. After everything that happened with Drew this year, the two had a heck of a lot to work out. But as it turns out, a mature conversation was all it took to patch things up.

In fact, after Clare aced her interview the next day (YAY!), Eli confessed what every single Eclare fan hoped he would confess.

    Degrassi: Thunderstruck

"I'm not over you." *Gasp* Things were starting to look up for Clare, and a promising future seemed totally attainable.

    Degrassi: Thunderstruck

...Until she got a call from the hospital. After her routine blood work, Clare found out that she and her, um, baby were going to be just fine.

    ...

Well, Season 14, here we come!

    Degrassi: Thunderstruck

By the way, #Triles may be more than a one time thing.

    Degrassi: Thunderstruck

Oh and #Brew? That might be a thing now, too.

What were your reactions to this game-changing finale? Could these new romances last? Will Clare be able to deal with this life-changing news? Shout it out in the comments!

  • TeenNick Top 10 Fresh Artist Interview: Nico & Vinz

    Posted on 07/25/2014 by TeenNickBlogger

    Fresh Artist: Nico & Vinz

By now you've probably cruised down the highway to Nico & Vinz's breakout single "Am I Wrong?" blasting through the speakers. Or maybe you've tapped your toes to its infections beat at a pool party. In whatever way this inspiring and totally danceable summer smash has soundtracked your summer, it's pretty obvious that this Norwegian hit-making duo is doing something so right.

But here's the thing: For Nico & Vinz, there's a lot more where that came from. We caught up with our new Fresh Artist to learn more about their debut album, their musical influences, and fun facts about their past! Check it out!

    1. Coming from Norway, how does it feel to see your music spread across the globe?

It's almost indescribable. We're are having the time of our lives right now, trying to soak it all up. We always had a dream of having our music reach and touch people all over the world, and to see that dream happen is beyond amazing. We're truly grateful for the support and we're working to pay you back with the best music we can make!

    2. Your sound has roots in African rhythms and textures, but with a Scandinavian pop twist. What do you think is most special about that unique combination of influences?

The most special thing about it is that it's very personal, it's Nico & Vinz. We figured that the best way to be unique, is to be yourself, because there's no one like you. So we started making music with that mentality and mixed our personalities and backgrounds in the music. Born and raised in Norway with parents from Ghana, Ivory Coast and Norway, influenced by the hip hop-culture.

    3. Has music always been your main focus and passion? How did you two become a duo?

Nico wanted to be a professional soccer player and Vinz was studying before we decided to focus on music at the age of 20.

    4. Can you remember the first album or record that made a lasting impression on you?

    Nico: Nas Illmatic
    Vinz: Dr. Dre 2001

    5. For fans who are eager to hear more music from you, what can they expect in the coming months?

Right now we're in the midst of finishing up our debut album Black Star Elephant, which will be out during fall. The album is a story based on our journey from where we started to where we've come now. We are very excited about releasing it and we definitely feel like this is our best music so far!

    RAPID FIRE QUESTIONS
And now, the rapid fire round! We asked nico & Vinz a series of silly questions, and here's what they had to say!

    5SOS: Rapid Fire

  • Degrassi Recap: 'Believe' Part 2

    Posted on 07/22/2014 by TeenNickBlogger

It's hard to believe that we're nearing the end of the chapter, but that doesn't mean the Degrassi drama is slowing down one bit! If you haven't seen "Believe Pt. 2", watch it online and then read our recap!

    Degrassi: Believe Pt. 2

Maya and Miles started getting re-cozy, but Miles was nervous that his testimony in court would shake things up (again). Remember when he almost kissed Zoe at his fateful party? Well, Maya didn't. And sooner or later, she was going to find out.

When Winston took the stand, he testified that Miles and Zoe were about to fool around before Zoe passed out.

And Maya decided she had had enough.

    Degrassi: Believe Pt. 2

    Degrassi: Believe Pt. 2

    Degrassi: Believe Pt. 2

Meanwhile, a gossip TV segment that was released surrounding the trial revealed that Zoe was actually booted from West Drive for pill popping. She was trying to move on from the trial by focusing on her audition, but this new video launched a disastrous wrench into her plan. Now the whole world knew her little secret.

As the video started to spread, things went from bad to worse. And when Zoe didn't know where to turn, she picked up her old habit: She swiped a few pills from Zig and popped them in school.

It didn't take long before Zoe, high on prescription drugs, started hallucinating in class.

    Degrassi: Believe Pt. 2

It seemed like her world was beginning to crumble. Was Zoe starting to crumble with it?

    Degrassi: Believe Pt. 2

Still high on the pills, she lashed out at the reporter who spread the terrible stories.

    Degrassi: Believe Pt. 2

And later on, Zig found Zoe crying in the back of the bus. She had reached the end of her rope, but Zig sat with her, comforted her, and tried to give her perspective.

Back in the courtroom, before Becky's testimony, Luke accidentally revealed something really important: At the time of the alleged assault...

    Degrassi: Believe Pt. 2

When Becky heard this, she was certain that Zoe never consented. As heartbreaking as it was, Becky knew she had to tell the truth on the stand.

As things were finally starting to turn around, Zoe mustered enough strength to give her honest and moving impact statement in court.

    Degrassi: Believe Pt. 2

After her statement, she thanked Zig. And gave him money to pay off the gang, and get out of dealing drugs for good.

    Degrassi: Believe Pt. 2

And when the jury finally came to their decision, Luke and Neil were found...

    Degrassi: Believe Pt. 2

    Guilty.

    Degrassi: Believe Pt. 2

Although Zoe was able to find justice in this heart-wrenching case, Becky's world was now turned upside down. Thanks in large part to her testimony, her brother was now convicted of sexual assault. And when Becky turned to her mom for support, she was cold. Oh, so cold.

Zoe's story sheds light on the complicated issue of sexual assault. It can happen to all kinds of people, and all-too often blame is assigned to the victim. Situations like these aren't easy to talk about, but if you or someone you know have been affected by sexual assault, there are resources available and it is never too late to get help. Tell someone you trust. You don't have to deal with this alone. Call the Sexual Assault Hotline at 1.800.656.HOPE or go to www.rainn.org.

  • Degrassi Recap: 'Believe' Part 1

    Posted on 07/16/2014 by TeenNickBlogger

This week on Degrassi, we took it to court. Zoe's trial against Becky's brother, Luke, has been a long time coming and on last night's episode it all went down in a judge's gown. If you haven't seen "Believe Pt. 1" yet, watch it online here here before reading our recap!

    DISORDER IN THE COURT
    Degrassi: Believe Pt. 1

Zoe's fame from West Drive drew a lot of media attention to her sexual assault case. Reporters began swarming the Degrassi campus for information about the case, and some were questioning whether accusations against Becky's brother, Luke, were fabricated. As if the media circus wasn't enough to handle, Zoe was also preparing for an important audition. To say the least, she was having trouble focusing.

    Degrassi: Believe Pt. 1

The first day in court, Zoe's lawyer began to question Luke about the Hollingsworth party and the incident in the pool house. When the lawyer asked if the encounter with Zoe was consensual, Luke replied, "She didn't say no." He also denied taking advantage of Zoe's intoxicated state to violate her while she was passed out.

    Degrassi: Believe Pt. 1

Then, as Frankie was questioned by the prosecution, Zoe's case started to look even weaker. When asked, Frankie had to admit that Zoe "wanted to hook up that night" even though she was really drunk when she said it. With the video evidence expunged from the investigation, the defense was starting to convince the jury that Zoe's reputation would suggest she was more into hooking up with Luke than she really was. Why were they asking what she drank, why she was there, what she did to "lead him on?"

    Degrassi: Believe Pt. 1

Zoe lashed out at her lawyer for not doing more to command the trial, and her lawyer told her to stay out of court. Feeling helpless, she decided that the best way to share her side of the story was to talk to a reporter directly. But when her quote was used against her in court, it seemed as though the trial was her's to lose. The victim is never to blame, and we hope the jury can see that. Only 'yes' means 'yes.'

    TRUE NORTH
    Degrassi: Believe Pt. 1

But Becky was also having a hard time with the impending trial. Since her mom made it clear that they would need her to defend Luke's innocence, she struggled with what she would say on the stand, truly believing that her brother was guilty but not wanting to abandon him.

    Degrassi: Believe Pt. 1

She became so overwhelmed, in fact, that she left the court room in the middle of Luke's questioning to return to Degrassi for an orienteering assignment. She just so happened to be paired up with Drew and less-than-stellar compass skills got them lost. Becky became noticeably frustrated and Drew suspected that it wasn't just about orienteering it was about the trial. Drew tried to comfort Becky about her situation, assuring her that no one would ever blame her for supporting her brother.

    OLD HABITS DIE HARD
    Degrassi: Believe Pt. 1

With all of the press surrounding the trial, Maya wanted to do something to support Zoe. She decided to get Miles' help making T-shirts and placards for students to wear at the trail. And as they started spending time together, Maya even made it seem like there was a chance that Miles could have another shot.

But here's just one thing. When Miles testifies in court, he's going to have to admit to almost making out with Zoe while he and Maya were still dating. Something Maya never found out about. Oof.

    Degrassi: Believe Pt. 1

And even though Zig didn't seem too happy about #Mayales reconnecting, he had bigger problems on his hands. When a member of the gang came around Degrassi, Zig tried to tell him he had retired. But it doesn't look like he's going to be off the hook that easy.

What did you think of this episode? What do you predict will happen next week? Let us know in the comments and don't forget to tune in for "Believe Pt. 2" next Tuesday at 9pm ET!
