• New Interview: Luke Bilyk (Drew)!

    Posted on 07/18/2011 by Mary

Degrassi's Luke Bilyk, aka Drew, 2011 Who would you say is the hardest working person in the Degrassi cast?
You know what... for me, I'm pretty close to what my character is actually like. For someone like Jordy, who plays Adam, that must be a pretty difficult amount of work. And not even just filming, but dealing with the fans and how you talk to people, it must be a lot more difficult for her.

    Who's the best morning person?
Definitely not Munro. Definitely not me. And not Raymond -- you can't even wake Raymond up. You wake Raymond up, you'd better get ready for a karate chop. I'd have to say probably Jordy. Jordy is always happy no matter what time of day it is.

In real life, would you say that you have a taste for the bad girls like Bianca, like Drew seems to? The girls that mommy wouldn't like?
[This is the sound of Luke blushing a little.] I don't know, I guess, sorta. A little bit of danger's always good.

Have you ever felt physically threatened in the way that Drew has to deal with in this season, where you actually felt unsafe?
Not in a way that I felt my life was going to be threatened, but... yeah, when I used to go to school, there were a couple times when I was like, "Wow, I just don't feel safe walking down the halls right now." Because a whole bunch of the guys at my old school didn't like me, and there were very uncomfortable moments where your back starts getting sweaty, like, "Is someone watching me?" But not like Drew -- I never felt like [NO SPOILERS!].

Has there ever been anything that you've wanted to do that you couldn't do because you're an actor? For example, Ray's really excited about cutting his hair now...
Oh, actually yes! I always for some reason wanted to have bleach blond hair, but every time I'd be like, "OK, we're gonna do it," I'd go and get my headshots done. And in my headshots my hair's still brown, so I'm like "so I guess I can't do it." That, and I always wanted to play high level sports, and you can't do that. Like Triple A hockey... it's just so demanding. My friends who play Triple A or now play Junior A, they play hockey just as much as I'd be working on the show, so it's impossible. I'd have to choose, hockey or Degrassi.

What are you doing with your summer when you aren't working?
Wonderland. Going to Wonderland a lot, and I play hockey with Raymond and Munro and his twin brother, and that's pretty much it. I just like chilling at home with my sisters.

  • New Interview: Munro Chambers (Eli)!

    Posted on 07/18/2011 by Mary

Munro Chambers aka Eli Goldsworthy from Degrassi: Now or Never How has it been working with Justin Kelly (who will play Jake) again?
Outstanding. He's a very very good friend of mine -- we worked together on a previous show -- and it's great. He's a talented actor, and to work with him again is a pleasure. Coming to work here every day is already the peak, acting-wise, for fun and enjoyment. But the fact that he's on makes it that much better, because it's family.

This must be a very different season for you, because last season most of your days were spent with Aislinn and now they're kind of... not.
Yeah, it's different. But I still... I still see her a lot. You'll see that in the season, we're still around each other, for better or worse.

What's your take on the new character Imogen? We're all so curious about her.
She's awesome. Really deep. I feel like there's so much to her that we don't know yet, she's a really complex character, played beautifully by Christine Prosperi. It's a very awkward character but at the same time very confident. It's really right in the middle. And Christine is so unlike Imogen. She's doing a fantastic job.

How do you feel about where Eli's going this season?
Eli... since the finale when he crashed his car, obviously something "upstairs" is not tightened properly. It's a very difficult time for him right now. I feel like Clare's trying to get over it, he's trying to get over it, they're both denying some stuff, and you're gonna see him go into kind of a dark place. But at the same time, good comes out of it. You're going to see a side of Eli that has been brewing inside of him, that a lot of people aren't ready for. What we saw in the finale was a glimpse.

    Do you miss Morty?
I really do! I remember there was a scene where I'm driving in my dad's car, which is a very beautiful car, but I was like "I miss driving that hungry monster of a car!" So good. I miss him. I want him back.

    Where is Morty now?
I think he's back in Newfoundland. He's a '63 Cadillac I think? But yeah, he's from Newfoundland; I met the guy who owns him, and he's a pretty sick dude. He's like 28, 29, he's not like this elderly guy who just drives around this old hearse. Apparently he drove it to prom and stuff! I wish Eli had gotten to do that.

  • Keke Palmer Talks Degrassi!

    Posted on 07/14/2011 by Mary

Monday night is almost here... and with it, the hour-long premiere of Degrassi: Now or Never! So so soon, we get our first taste of a summer-long gushing fountain of delicious Degrassiness!

True Jackson's Keke Palmer is Degrassi's special guest to help kick off the season, so I got her on the phone to talk about the show she, I, and all of us love so much.

Keke Palmer guests on the season premiere of Degrassi: Now or Never So I heard that you were a big Degrassi fan; how did you end up on the show?
Very much so, a huge Degrassi fan. I've watched Degrassi since... 2006 or something like that? I was always really into the show, and I kept telling Nick that I would really love to do an episode and it would mean a lot to me. And finally schedules were switched around and I was able to do one!

    What were your favorite episodes?
Ooh, my favorite episode would have to be... I'm a bit dramatic so I would have to say it would be the episode when Paige got Terri drunk and took her to the dance, because she liked Spinner and Spinner like Terri and Terri was insecure. I really liked that episode, and it taught a really good lesson. And then the saddest, most heart-wrenching episode that I cried on but I loved it, was the one when Jimmy got shot.

Aww! So you're really an old-school fan.
Yes, definitely. I have to say I'm more familiar with the old cast than with this cast, but I do watch the episodes still.

Do you have a stance on Eli and Clare? Do you think they should have broken up?
I definitely think they should have broken up! I'm not understanding why Eli got so crazy like this! He's getting too obsessive over Clare. Maybe it's just because he's a teenager and he's emotional -- as a teenager, your emotions, everything is so heightened. But he's just TOO obsessed over her and it's not healthy and I'm really glad they're not together anymore.

What else are you up to this summer?
Chilling out... I'm just finishing up Ice Age 4 which I produced with Nick Cannon and starred in; I just finished that a month ago. I also did a movie with Queen Latifah and Dolly Parton that's coming out in January. And then my album! I have two singles on iTunes that'll premiere on Degrassi Monday night, called "The Greatest" and "Walls Come Down".

So exciting! And are you going to watch the premiere Monday night?
Definitely gonna watch it! I'm really excited about this season, even just the promos... somebody put a GUN point blank to Drew's face! I'm like, "Oh my gosh, somebody's trying to kill him!" And Eli and Clare! Clare's like "Did you forget I existed? Did you ever love me at all!?" That line is so chilling! A lot of stuff going on that I'm waiting to see.

  • All My Single Ladies!

    Posted on 07/01/2011 by Mary

I can't think of a better way to spend a Girls' Night than watching Beyoncé OWN the stage Live in Las Vegas.

Is it even physically possible to watch her perform the Single Ladies choreography without getting out of your chair and puttin' a little swerve in it? Check out this video of the whole number (not just a tease!):

Lord. I know Beyoncé is probably richer than three kings and a tycoon by now, but looking at her pull this out at the END of a long, eye-popping show... I'm thinking, that woman has got to be the hardest working person in show business, and she deserves every penny. And you definitely have to see the whole show tonight... she will blow your mind.

How much of the Single Ladies' dance can you do? I almost have the marching/head popping thingy down, and I can do some of the put-it-on-the-floor hip grinds if I've had a nutritious breakfast.

  • Undeclared: FREE MONEY!

    Posted on 06/19/2011 by Mary

Hey kids! Did you know that once you get to college, banks give you FREE MONEY? It's true! I saw it on Undeclared! (Processing fees not included; finance charges may apply; please call to verify eligibility.)

Ah, the freshman year credit card. So much freedom... for about a month, until you hit your credit limit, and suddenly you have no more spending money because you have to pay your credit card bill... and then they raise your limit! And you have freedom again! Until two years later when you suddenly look at your bill and realize you owe $6000 and it's costing you $100 a month in finance charges and it's going to take you 12 years to pay it off if you only pay the minimum which is all you can afford and you can't even remember what you bought with that $6000 because you don't even feel like you own anything nice and you suspect it was pretty much just $6000 worth of tacos because that one taco place took credit cards.

Damn you, taco place! Damn you and your delicious credit tacos!
