  • Teen pregnancy is preventable.

    Posted on 04/02/2010 by Mary

Holly J said, "Sav's grown up enough to have sex; he's grown up enough to tell his parents he has a girlfriend."

True that, and furthermore... if Sav and Anya are grown up enough to have sex, they're BOTH grown up enough to have made a much more thorough, concrete plan for how they were going to prevent a pregnancy -- a pregnancy that would deeply affect both of their lives -- instead of, like, a two sentence conversation two seconds before it happened.

As they say at stayteen.org," Teen pregnancy is 100% preventable. (Unless it's the result of sexual violence.) What else can you say that about? Either don't have sex at all, or use protection every single time."

  • 5 Questions for Samantha Munro, aka Anya!

    Posted on 04/01/2010 by Mary

We asked Samantha Munro 5 questions; she gave us 5 answers. The universe is balanced indeed. Get to know her!

Samantha Munro, Anya from Degrassi < b>What was the first rock show/concert you ever went to, and what was the BEST rock show/concert you ever went to?
Same answer for both... Blink 182. It was my first concert and it was only last year (that's right, I was 18 years old). I screamed the entire time and I lost my voice for 2 days.

What makes you cranky? And what gets you un-cranky?
I don't like being cold. I think I was supposed to be born in a tropical location. What makes me un-cranky??? Sun and a baggy sweater

When you doodle, what do yo u draw?
I always draw a moose. In fact, I'm quite famous for my moose. His name is Alvin. He's cute.

What do you think makes a good Degrassi episode?
I really like it when something shocking happens that yo u weren't expecting. When you have that OMG moment. I also enjoy it when we get to see why characters are the way they are. For example, why Riley had anger issues or why Holly J was so nasty.

And a user question from kisstojake: What's been your most embarrassing moment on set?
We were filming a scene where I was walking through a door, and, to put it simply, the door didn't open and I walked smack into the glass. I whacked my face right into it. Classic.

  • Degrassi's Melinda Shankar and Sam Earle at the KCAs!

    Posted on 03/29/2010 by Lisa

Before the Kids' Choice Awards, I was on the orange carpet, posting live updates for nick.com, and I got to meet Melinda Shankar (Alli) and Sam Earle (K.C.) from Degrassi. It was the first time any of us had been at the KCAs, so we were all really excited to be there.

I got to talk to a bunch of celebrities, but I think I got the most excited to meet Melinda and Sam, just because I love watching them on Degrassi. If you're wondering, they were both so nice in person.

Melinda and Sam on the orange carpet!

    Don't they look great?

  • Degrassi: Tag your friends on facebook!

    Posted on 03/26/2010 by Mary

Who's the Emma in your group of friends, and who's the Manny? Who's the Declan and who's the Holly J? We made some Degrassi photo grids for you to grab and tag your friends on facebook, or wheresoever you prefer tagging your friends. (And invite them over for brand new episodes April 2 at 9p et omg!)

Way too many people have graced the halls of Degrassi for one grid, so:

Here's the "new school" version: Holly J, Declan, Fiona, Clare, K.C., Jenna, Sav, Anya, etc.

And here's the "old school" version: Manny, Ellie, Paige, Marco, Ashley, Emma, Craig, Sean, Jay, Heather Sinclair, etc.

  • Degrassi at the KCAs!

    Posted on 03/24/2010 by Mary

I am in the mood for sharing. Can we share? Ok. I'll go first:

I just heard that Sam Earle (K.C.) and Melinda Shankar (Alli) will both be going to the KCAs on Saturday night!

Ok now you share: Make up a KCA you would give to Sam and Melinda! 'Cause they sure as poop deserve 'em even if they weren't nominated harrumph. Who cares, they don't need no boring old favorite TV actor and actress awards. (I'm gonna give Melinda "Favorite performance of the word 'awesome'." And Sam gets... "Most Believable Cute-Yet-Smart boy.)

  • Off like a Degrassi prom dress?

    Posted on 03/21/2010 by Mary

Maybe it's the uniqueness of the night, the fact that everyone smells so darn good, or that little extra leeway on curfew people get... but why does prom night have this air of "let's make this night special, and by special, I mean SPECIAL"? Do you and/or your friends think there's any reason to go further on prom night than you would on any other night?

(Looks like Anya and Sav might, though I guess there are other factors at work there, too.)

  • Nina Dobrev on Seventeen

    Posted on 03/19/2010 by Mary

QueenVicci writes: "I just thought I'd let you know that our baby Mia is ALL GROWN UP NOW! I just saw her on the cover of Seventeen. I really wanted to cross out the 'From Vampire Diaries' and write 'From Degrassi'."

I know, right, QV? WE SAW HER FIRST. But whatevs, if you love someone set them free.

  • Sav and Anya Bickerson

    Posted on 03/12/2010 by Mary

Sav and Anya can find pretty much anything to bicker about...or, maybe more accurately, Anya can find anything to pick a fight about with Sav, and Sav can back down and put his tail between his legs on almost any topic.

Do you know any couples like that? ARE you any couples like that?

  • Join the Spinner Debate

    Posted on 03/06/2010 by Lisa

Spinnersunsoaker3 got a big debate started on the message boards. She says, "Spinner is way too old to still be chillin around the high school crowd."

Some of the people posting seem to agree:

"I know I definitely think he should hang around with a crowd that's more his age." - krisl

"I think its quite sad that Spinner hasn't moved along like everyone else. Darcy left for Africa, Manny and Emma are in college, Paige and them are fully grown adults with their own lives and successes. Everyone is gone and I feel Spinner will be there in Toronto forever, even after Peter and them leave." - tweenkid

But others are sticking up for Spin:

"Well, he is dating a girl in high school, his band is still in high school, his best friend moved far away right after graduation, and he runs the Dot. What is supposed to do? Give up on everything and everyone he loves because they are all younger?" - jsi959

"I think you all must be forgetting that not everyone moves away after school. Not everyone goes off to college/joins a band/goes to Africa/etc. Spinner's situation is common, to be honest. I graduated in 07 and I haven't left my hometown. If all of your friends move away to do whatever it is that they're movin away to do, you'll eventually make new friends." - MrLWeegee

I didn't have anyone like Spinner around when I was in high school, but I sort of wish I had. It makes me wonder how many people are in that situation.

If you're in high school, are any of your good friends a few years older than you?

If you've graduated already, do you have any friends who are still in high school?

  • Are you the Clare friend or the Jenna friend?

    Posted on 03/04/2010 by Mary

When your friend wants to get back together with the guy who fwded her naked pics and lied about being a virgin but she still loves him and he maybe still loves her and it's all very confusing and she wants advice (tonight, Degrassi, 10p et), are you the Clare friend, or the Jenna friend?

As in, are you the one who gives the reality checks and solid advice and tries to keep your friends out of trouble, but sometimes might come off as judgy?

Or the one who cheerleads for romantic ideals and experimenting with life and not being judgy, but sometimes maybe fails to avoid trouble?

    Or somethin' else entirely?

    Judge yourself in the comments...
