  • Chloe and Luke Play Hard.

    Posted on 03/02/2012 by Lisa

Chloe Rose (Katie) and Luke Bilyk (Drew) played a lot of soccer on the set of "Can't Tell Me Nothing, pt. 1." Here's a behind the scenes video:

  • Degrassi, Dance Academy, and Girl Fights...

    Posted on 02/24/2012 by Lisa

Tonight on TeenNick, lots of girls said (and did) lots of mean things to each other. Let's break it down, and let's talk about what happened with Cake, too.

SPOILERS BELOW. Don't read any further until you've seen the latest episodes of Degrassi and Dance Academy!

    First up: Degrassi.
Right now I feel like Katie and Marisol are such bad friends that they sort of deserve each other. When they decided that it was fine to let Imogen take the blame for everything, I started talking to my TV, like "Are you KIDDING me?" (and that's one of the nicer things I said out loud as I watched.) I felt like we really saw Katie and Marisol at their worst in this episode.

Maya and ToriThe scenes between Tori and Maya were hard to watch for different reasons. I agreed with Simpson when he said how disappointed he was to see "two smart girls fighting over a guy the first week of school." And like, FIGHT-fighting. Spitting! Hair-pulling! Over a dude! Yes, Zig is cute, but really?!! I'm dying to hear what you guys think of Tori now -- especially after the scene in Simpson's office where she seemed to want Maya to feel sorry for her.

Meanwhile... I'm sending a hug out to all the Cake fans tonight. Jake had a good point about how he and Clare are already "linked for life" and that having sex might just make everything more complicated. That heartbreaking conversation in the kitchen (followed immediately by hanging out as a family) sort of proved his point. I think no matter what, though, they're headed for more complications. I mean, they still like each other, right? And they still live in the same house?

    Meanwhile, on DANCE ACADEMY...
When Abigail ran in, acting all excited to have Tara for a roommate, I was confused about who she was for a second. It looked like Abigail, the girl that tried to get Tara kicked out of auditions. Then I realized... yup, it's Abigail, and she's being really, really fake. I think Tara instinctively felt the same way, but because she's a nice person, she gave Abigail the benefit of the doubt.

Sammy, Tara, and KatI feel like on both shows tonight, the adults were completely out of the loop about the girl vs. girl drama. Simpson seemed unwilling to believe anything bad about Katie and Marisol, and Miss Raine tells Tara that if she wants to be successful, she should spend MORE time with Abigail. Yes, Kat might be a bad influence in some ways -- she does convince Tara to leap off of a building -- but Abigail seems like she's intentionally trying to ruin Tara's chances at the academy.

A few things I liked about this episode:
    *The kangaroo!!
*Spotting the girl from H2O. (Cariba Heine played Rikki on H2O, and she's Isabelle on Dance Academy.)
*The way Kat defends Sammy when the other guys make fun of him.
*This quote: "The thing about being at the bottom is... there's nowhere else to go but up." - Tara

Are you ready for another Dance Academy episode? The next ep, Behind Barres, will air on TeenNick next Friday, but you can watch it online RIGHT HERE!

    Tara, Kat, and Abigail

Random question to answer in the comments: Which girl would you LEAST want as a friend?
    Marisol (Degrassi)
    Tori (Degrassi)
    Katie (Degrassi)
    Abigail (Dance Academy)
    Kat (Dance Academy)

  • Songs from Degrassi: "Underneath It All, pt. 2"

    Posted on 02/24/2012 by Ryanmcl

What song was playing during the Tori/Maya Brawl? Here's info from Degrassi's music team about how they chose the songs used in this episode.

SPOILER WARNING: If you haven't seen the new episode yet, go watch it before you read this post!

    TeenNick's Degrassi

    "Astronaut" by Robyn Dell'Unto
Clare and Jake almost have sex. Check the Degrassi page for a sample.
"Robyn's music is dreamy and elusive, and was perfect for this scene. We had no idea where the scene was heading, and we felt the nervous tension. Cutting through it with Robyn's song was like wrapping the scene in a warm duvet blanket. It felt awkward, but still comfortable."

"Because I'm Awesome" by The Dollyrots
Tori and Maya fight in class.
"This song had been on our radar for a while (in fact, we placed it before, in Season 10). This wasn't a serious fight scene -- we wanted to create a bit of a ridiculous atmosphere. We decided to use the song again, because, well, it's awesome."

  • Welcome Back, Degrassi, and Hello, Dance Academy!

    Posted on 02/20/2012 by Lisa

Degrassi is back!! And it made a friend! Did you watch both shows tonight? Want to discuss them?

SPOILERS BELOW. If you haven't seen the episodes yet, go here for Degrassi or here for Dance Academy.

Some of you got to watch "Underneath It All, pt. 1" at the Degrassi parties last week. So much fun. I wish we could do that all the time.

Imogen arrives at Fiona's partyOh, so... new friends. What does Fiona have against Imogen? When she said, "I would love to sit with you, but I promised that girl," I felt so sad. Yes, Imogen is a little weird, but don't weird people deserve friends, too? I'm also not happy that they left Imogen behind at the end of the episode. Also: I thought Imogen looked so cute and Imogen-y in the outfit she wore to Fiona's party. She looked nice in the black dress, too, but the tutu seemed so much more her.

As TeenNick's quiz writer I have lots of thoughts about the fact that Clare tried to use a personality quiz to figure out if she and Jake are ready to have sex. ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!! I love quizzes, but there is a time and place for them -- and losing your virginity is NOT one of those times. Watching that scene (see it again here), I wished that Clare and Alli were still friends, because I feel like Alli would've talked things through with her and helped Clare figure out what she wanted.

Other random thoughts as I watched the ep:

    *Connor is back!!
*I wish I had a sushi guy on call.
*Zig & Maya = cutie patooties. I want this to happen! I hope Zaya happens!
*The plaid mini-dress Marisol wore to Fiona's party was super-cute.
*That is a LOT of tin foil. Either they bought every roll of foil in a twenty mile radius around Degrassi, or the Degrassi caf is very well stocked.

    And let's talk DANCE ACADEMY!

Tara and KatYou've probably never seen Xenia Goodwin (who plays Tara) on TV before, because she's primarily a ballet dancer. I love that they cast actual dancers in this show, because that makes it feel so much more real.

When Georgia tells Tara, "Abigail always stands at the front of the bar," it gave me such a sense of what Abigail is like as a person. I would not want her as a roommate.

Who's your favorite guy on the show so far? Christian, Sammy, or Ethan?

    Other random Dance Academy thoughts:

*I'd like to visit a sheep farm in Australia.
*This show inspired our new What Style of Dance Are You? quiz!
*The second episode of Dance Academy, "Week Zero," will air Friday at 9:30 pm on TeenNick, but you can watch it online right now!

    TeenNick's Degrassi

"All I Want to Believe In" by Modernboys Moderngirls
As everyone comes back to school. Check the Degrassi page for a sample.
"As we come back to school, everyone is a little older and a little wiser, and that's what we aimed for with this song. The Toronto indie band Modernboys Modergirls paced the scene for a warm welcome back."

"Yo Hello Hooray (Everyday)" by USS
    Fiona's party music.
"There's some tension in the scene that is lifted a bit by the music, but not too much -- it still needs to feel a bit awkward. Fiona is, after all, trying to make new friends."

    "The Lights" by Fred
    Tin foiling the cafeteria.
"The song's instrumentation sold this placement. The scene needed something magical or unknown, something that would seem surreal. The prank is pretty epic, and the music makes the kids feel invincible."
