The latest Degrassi episode deals with some really intense stuff, so we put together a list of resources. (If you haven't seen "Bitter Sweet Symphony," you might want to watch it before you read any further.)
"Bitter Sweet Symphony" tells Cam's story, and it's a heartbreaking one. As Dylan Everett mentions in the PSA, thousands of teens take their own lives every year. By working together, and looking out for each other, we can help stop that from happening.
The Degrassi team worked with the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline to make "Bitter Sweet Symphony" as accurate as possible, but a TV show can't cover every angle. Here's some stuff we want to be sure everybody knows:
Suicide is preventable. Studies show that most people who get help when feeling suicidal improve or completely recover.
Help is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Anyone who is feeling suicidal or are in emotional distress can call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline, 1-800-273-TALK (1-800-273-8255) any time of day from anywhere in the U.S. to be connected to a trained crisis counselor.
If you or someone you know is having suicidal thoughts or talking about suicide, don't be afraid to get involved. Please use these resources and share them with anyone who may need them.
