  • A Tribute to Ziley

    Posted on 07/28/2011 by Lisa

Don't read any further unless you've already seen "Dirt Off Your Shoulder, Pt. 2."

I sometimes take notes as I watch Degrassi to keep track of the things I want to write about, and the main note from tonight's ep (aside from a few things about Eli and Imogen) was the word ZILEY written in giant letters. Giant sad letters.

I can't bring myself to rewatch that scene at the Dot. I'm tearing up just thinking about it. Ziley (or Rane, whatever you want to call them) are one of my all-time favorite Degrassi couples. I'm still using the present tense, because I'm not ready to accept that they're over. ...and now I'm tearing up as I type. Seriously. I'm a sad little blogger tonight, so instead of writing a thoughtful post about the whole episode, I'm going to post a bunch of pictures of Ziley in happier times.

Zane (aww, look at his messy hair) and Riley.

    Panthers. :)

    Ziley kiss!

    Ziley makes me sigh-ly.

Zane and Riley in suits... because they *suit* each other.

Think they'll ever reunite? (Just tell me yes. I'm crying here.)

  • New Interview! Argiris Karras and Shannon Kook-Chun!

    Posted on 07/25/2011 by Mary

I caught up with Argiris and Shannon (who are not dating each other in real life, lest you get confused by their jokestery below) on the Degrassi set. The three of us sat down for a little chat in -- true story -- a booth inside Little Miss Steaks. The seats there are kind of uncomfortable, if you've ever wondered.

Degrassi's Argiris Karras and Shannon Kook-Chun, aka Riley and Zane, 2011 I've heard that you guys knew each other before the show, and that maybe Argy, you suggested that Shannon should audition? Or what's the story there?

Argiris: It was more of a surprise actually. He told me, "Hey, I've got an audition..." I don't know, do you remember how it went?
Shannon: I think we were at Jake Epstein's birthday, who played Craig on the show. I came to meet Argy because he and I were together like, every day that summer. We'd bike in the rain back from a night out, we'd double on the bike.

Oh my God! How did you know each other?

Shannon: I saw him somewhere before, and I was like "Yo, didn't I see you at...?"
Argiris: At an audition room actually, yeah.
Shannon: Yeah, he was doing a self-tape for an audition, so I saw him and stopped him. And then, where did we actually hit it off?
    Argiris: Maybe... I can't remember.
Shannon: You don't remember our first date! (laughs) There were a lot of nights and days out. So then at Jake's birthday, I just told him. And he was calling me Zane all night trying to get me in character.
Argiris: Yeah, I do remember that.

So you were specifically auditioning for Zane, it wasn't one of those things where like, Liberty auditioned for Manny...

Shannon: No, and they didn't even know that I was friends with him until when I got the role and we came for rehearsal. Our director was like, 'So, you guys are friends? That's a bonus! We never knew that.' And I don't know if it would have affected their decision, in a good way or bad way -- it could be a bad thing. And then she asked, 'Do you think this makes it easier or more difficult for you?' And I wasn't really sure. It is easier in a way because we have a rapport and we're comfortable with each other.

It's interesting that you weren't just friend but like fast friends, too.

    Argiris and Shannon: Yeah.
Shannon: And it's not often... you meet a lot of people in the industry but to get to work with someone that you would actually go out and dance with -- Argy and I would be the only two guys really breaking it down on the dance floor.
Argy: Yeah, a lot of guys wouldn't go out there, they're pretty pathetic, they're just staying against the wall. Though, you know, we were there at some point in our life.
    Shannon: They're scoping out chicks.
Argy: They just scope and they kind of creep and they kind of try to pull girls' dresses. It's just like, 'No, you've gotta have fun!' You've gotta show the girl that you're having fun and then stuff flows.

TO BE CONTINUED... too many spoilers in the rest of our conversation!

  • Degrassi: Everybody Loves Zane

    Posted on 03/13/2011 by Mary

Over on the boards, eliisagod asks:

"Is there anyone that hates Zane? Because I simply can't think of any reason why someone would."

I can't either, eliisagod. But it'll be interesting to see if anyone comes up with anything...

    Zane and Riley on Degrassi

Sneak peek pics from Friday's new episode of Degrassi, The Way We Get By, pt. 2, are up! Check out the whole batch, right here.

whoozbad01 says "seeing Ziley together again is so perfect!" Do you think Riley's mom will ever feel that way?

  • This Week on Degrassi... Eek.

    Posted on 02/18/2011 by Mary

If you didn't watch the new Degrassi: In Too Deep episode, go watch it now so we can process our feelings together.

Drew on Degrassi: In Too Deep, The Way We Get By

    OK. Let's process.

    * Drianca? Brew? First of all what should Drew and Bianca's couple name be, but second of all: should they even be a couple? I guess one good thing is that she'll never let him walk all over her... and I don't know, ever since Bianca said she might want to be a jewelry maker in that self esteem seminar... I've kind of been like, "maybe she's human?" What's your take?

    * ZILEY!. Eek. How bad do you think this is going to be in the Stavros household?

    * "Sometimes being a good boyfriend means doing things that suck." Ain't it the truth -- and sometimes being a good girlfriend means doing things that suck, too. What are your personal limits -- how much would you be willing to compromise on activities you find boring or scary or lame, if it mattered to your bf/gf?

    * Also, dig the haircut, Riley. Nice work, Anya.

    * Is it me, or is Jenna the judgiest pregnant teen ever? Or do you feel like she has a right to judge Bianca, just because Bianca is so completely beyond the pale?

    * This Malaika girl. I'm pretty sure I don't trust her. Why can't Alli find a nice Clare-type at the Beechwood Private Preparatory School for Young Ladies?

  • We got you a present!

    Posted on 12/25/2010 by Mary

We at TeenNick wish you Happy Holidays, Happy New Year and Happily Ever After Your Whole Life Long!

And, good news! We picked your names out of the Secret Santa hat, so here's your prezzie... a new Degrassi poster! It looks like this:

TeenNick's present for you - a new Degrassi poster!

Some assembly required... we broke it down into three 8x10 pieces:
Right-click and save for part 1
Right-click and save for part 2
Right-click and save for part 3

This way you can print those out and put 'em together to make your very own Deg-oration. Oh my God, I just said Deg-oration, clearly I need to stop working and go to Australia. Have a GREAT holiday, enjoy your winter break, I hope it snows only exactly as much as you want it to, and I hope all of your wishes come true forever. Unless you make bad wishes.

    Enjoy your new poster!

  • Behind the Scenes at Degrassi's Halloween Shoot!

    Posted on 10/30/2010 by Mary

Happy Hallo-weekend! Here's a plastic jack-o-lantern's worth of behind the scenes snapshots from Degrassi's Monster Moon shoot. Also, fyi, you can click here to watch all four Monster Moon minis crammed into one.

Two more vids are coming (they're on TV during the 9pm Degrassi airings, and then online afterwards).

Oh and check out this cute li'l pic of Munro and Aislinn behind the scenes at the shoot. Awww/ewww.

  • Riley. Actually happy. Actually at peace with himself.

    Posted on 08/24/2010 by Mary

I had started to wonder if we would ever see the day that Riley Stavros would kiss his boyfriend in full view of other students and just not care what anyone thought.

Especially after that heart-wrenching scene of him searching the "history" (what little there is of it) of openly gay athletes. Seriously, never has an web-search scene made me so verklempt.

Anyway, Riley is free at last. Let's celebrate by watching him celebrate again; click here.

  • Did Riley just almost kinda sorta come out-ish???

    Posted on 08/19/2010 by Mary

alttext Riley! If you were a real person and not a figment of some television writers' imaginations, I would HUG YOU WITH ALL OF MY ARMS right now!

Look how you made Zane almost fully smile! SO proud of you!

GO ZILEY! Or do you prefer Rane?

Here's the video, relive the magic.

  • This Week in Degrassi: Let's Review.

    Posted on 07/30/2010 by Mary

Friday night = catch up night -- if you missed any eps this week or just want to treat yourself to two hours of uninterrupted, gently-used Degrassi, 9pm et is where it's at. Man, a lot happened this week... Zane trying out for football was only four days ago! So let's review:

Riley and Zane:Think they'll last? What do you forecast for them?

Riley: Do you think he'll come out in high school, or wait 'til college?

Alli: That desperate bid for the social life of her dreams was odd, but... does she actually have a point about needing more friends? Clare is always hyper-busy (and will probably disappear onto Love Island with Eli soon); Dave has a crush on her which is fine but... that can be really hard on a friendship. She might have more in common with Connor and Wesley than she cares to admit, but I can also see how she would want some people around her that she has more in common with. I don't know, what do you guys think?

Alli and Drew: Can she tame him?

KC: Are you happy about him reuniting with his mom? What's your take on her?

Clare and Eli: Squeee! Oh also, I clipped this little snippet from a Degrassi script for you... it's Clare's writing assignment about her parents fighting.

We need to talk is a line that every kid dreads. But you know what's worse? Waiting for it.
