This post was written by legendary Degrassi executive producer, Stephen Stohn.
Music is so integral to Degrassi and there are many ways that it enters the show. There is the score that underlines the scenes and there are the songs that come from both the independent artists and the established artists. Then there are those wonderful moments where songs are performed by cast members and guest stars on the show. Here are my Top 10 unforgettable Degrassi musical performances:
1. Craig and his band "Downtown Sasquatch" are determined to beat his ex-girlfriend Ashley and her new all-girl band "Hell Hath no Fury" in a battle-of-the-bands competition.
It was just so iconic seeing the girls in their Hell Hath no Fury tees with Craig's picture on them. It was such a beautiful way to have the battle of the bands act as a metaphor for the battle of the sexes.
2. Cassie Steele sings "Life is a Show"
So much of Degrassi has to do with things that seem to go wrong or that cause pain and questioning. But of course, there are those moments of pure joy. And one of my favorite moments like this was when Cassie Steele (as Manny) performed on top of the bus in a Hollywood Studio lot (with Nina Dobrev played the tambourine) and won her audition for Jason Mewes' movie "Mewesical High".
3. Natasha Bedingfield sings "Unwritten"
It was such a thrill meeting Natasha and her song "Unwritten" truly was one of the iconic anthems of that year. It was super fitting that she sang that song during the prom scene because in essence all of the graduates' lives were still unwritten. She also treated us to a first taste of her next single "Pocket Full of Sunshine", which also did well on the charts.
4. Whisperhug performs "Superman" in a battle-of-the-bands competition.
It was great to revisit the classic battle-of-the-bands this many years later. But this time, the performance was the backdrop for some real-life lessons that trans advocate Chaz Bono was able to impart to one of our most beloved characters, Adam Torres.
5. Hedley performs "Kiss You Inside Out"
I've known the Hedley lead singer Jacob Hoggard for almost his whole career and I'd always been hoping we could sneak a performance of his band into the show. We had already used their song "I Do (Wanna Love You)" in the airport scene in Degrassi Goes Hollywood where Craig can't say goodbye to Ellie, so I was pleased to be able to have them sing "Kiss You Inside Out" in person on our set. The scene also played out while Katie (played by Chloe Rose) was being tempted by a wealthy man's indecent proposal.
6. Ashley is performing at the Degrassi-Lakehurst talent mixer and it's going downhill. When Jimmy intervenes, their spontaneous duet makes the crowd go wild.
What can I say? A great foretelling of the future for one of those characters!
7. Keke Palmer Concert
When Keke toured the studio before her performance, it turned out that she knew more about Degrassi than I did. She pointed out so much that I had forgotten long before. Then she just went on stage and blew us away with her performances.
8. "Here Today" sung by Paula Brancati
This song always reminded me of one of my favorite bands Coldplay and I cried when I first heard it.
9. Fefe Dobson Concert
Fefe is one of Canada's secret musical weapons so it made sense to include her. The Fefe Dobson concert in this episode was a great backdrop to the introduction of Miles and Maya so it will always remind me of that.
10. "Sometimes When We Touch" sung by Stefan Brogren
I am friends with the writer Dan Hill (the writer of the song) and had to ask him for special permission for what is probably one of the worst recorded performances of his beautiful song, ever. Simpson croaks the song to entice his wife back to him and it worked!

Plain and simple, Degrassi friendships are special. And no one knows this better than Epitome's social media maven, Krista Legault. She's the voice behind @Degrassi on Twitter and she's here to walk us through the top 10 BFFs who prove a Degrassi bond is like no other!
1) Katie & Marisol
Friends since kindergarten, we can't deny these two have gone through their ups and downs. Why does Drew Torres always manage to get in the way? But when it comes down to it, Katie and Marisol are there for each other. You know you value a friend when you'll drop out a school presidential race to hold onto them.
2) Maya & Tristan
They've been through makeovers and Paris together, but we can't talk about Maya and Tristan without talking about their breakup scene. Cue our hearts shattering. "I just wanted this one good thing. But you of all people ruined that for me." What will the rest of Season 14 hold for these two? You'll have to watch and see ;)
3) Jimmy & Spinner
Jimmy and Spinner show that even the best of friends can go through the darkest times. But their friendship proves that forgiveness can help us move on from the past, and sustain lasting relationships. And we're sure glad they did, because we'd love to get our hands on some Jimmy/Spinner t-shirt designs.
4) Fiona & Holly J
Fighting to be the most popular girl in school can really pit two girls against each other. Holly J and Fiona turned their rivalry into an epic friendship, and even a romance? But when all is said and done, high school's not about being popular. It's about building connections that extend all the way from Toronto and New York, to Yale and Rome.
5) Adam, Clare & Eli
The Misfits showed that true friendship comes without judgment. It comes from loving and accepting your friends for who they are, being a shoulder to cry on, and someone to laugh with. The picnic table scene in My Body is a Cage will always stand out to us as a moment of sincere love and compassion.
6) JT & Toby
The most lovable friendship on Degrassi. It was always JT and Toby against the world Trying to fit in, be one of the guys, and maybe impress a girl or two. And of course that never worked out (neither did the penis pump), but they always had each other.
7) Jake & Mo
The ultimate bromance. And let's be real, our hearts swelled and cheeks hurt from laughing when Jake and Mo declared their affection for one another at prom. We have no doubt these two will continue their friendship post-high school... and hopefully their kids will hang out together, too. ;)
8) Ellie, Marco & Paige
Ellie, Marco and Paige are one of our fav friendship trios! From the halls of Degrassi to the university house, these three go from friends to family and prove that while high school comes to an end, true friendship is forever. Oh, and Stacey, Adamo and Lauren are best pals in real life! *sigh*
9) Alli & Clare
High school is all about growing up, and sometimes growing apart. But not Alli and Clare. Even after they went through cancer, an STI scare and a little 'boiler room' drama, Alli turns to Clare and says, "you'll always have me." That's why we keep our BFF's on speed dial.
10) Emma & Manny
The most classic Degrassi friendship. In high school, every girl needs a BFF. Sure, Emma and Manny were oppositesbut whether Manny was going commando to prove a point, or Emma was protesting against genetically modified foods, these girls always had each other's backs.
And our hearts.

This piece was written by Adamo Ruggiero, who played the unforgettable Marco Del Rossi on Degrassi: The Next Generation.
Degrassi has always represented the LGBT experience when many television shows did not. For many LGBT kids, Degrassi was like the book you read under your covers after lights out -- hiding from your folks, yet making you feel ever so visible in its stories and characters. Degrassi has deeply informed my personal experience as a gay person, as it did and continues to do for LGBT youth worldwide. So let's take a walk down memory lane and visit my top 10 LGBT moments from the last 14 season of Degrassi!
1) "Secrets & Lies" - Ashley discovers her dad is gay.
As a 14 year old viewer, this was one of the first LGBT stories I saw on television -- and certainly was the first time I learned parents could be gay too.
2) "Pride-Part 1" - Marco comes out to Spinner in alleyway.
The Degrassi moment I hold dearest. Part fiction and part reality -- this scene marked the beginning of Marco and my coming out journey. Together.
3) "Pride-Part 2" - Marco is gay bashed; Jimmy comforts him.
By far, the hardest scene I shot on the series. In many ways, it inspired my coming out publicly -- to support LGBT teens like Marco.
4) "The Lexicon Of Love- Part 2" - Guest star Kevin Smith advises Paige to follow her true feelings for Alex.
A very sweet and endearing moment. Who wouldn't take relationship advice from Kevin Smith? Gay or straight.
5) "Beat It-Part 2" - Riley tells Fiona he can be "cured" of his homosexuality.
Filled with self-hatred, a desperate Riley reaches his breaking point. For me, this scene showed how homophobia from others can make you homophobic against yourself.
6) "My Body Is A Cage-Part 1" - Bianca rips open Adam's shirt, revealing his "binding."
Adam taught me a lot about the challenges faced by Trans teens. Adam feels both socially and physically cagedand in this heartbreaking scene, Bianca exposes Adam's secret and mocks his gender identity.
7) "Tonight, Tonight-Part 2" - Adam gets advice from guest star Chaz Bono.
One of the coolest cameos on Degrassi! Faced with the pressures of being a Trans teen, Adam turns to LGBT icon Chaz Bono for advice. The twist? Adam is Chaz's hero.
8) "Hypnotize" - Imogen and Jack fall in love through dance.
The best first date in Degrassi history! Also my fav LGBT couple. Imogen and Jack turn up the heat and find the rock and roll in high school love.
9) "Out Of My Head" - Tristan and his teacher, Mr. Yates, secretly kiss in janitor's closet.
Whether you're gay or straight, young love can be very intoxicating. In this scene, Tristan is tempted by the allure of a mature romance and finds himself in an inappropriate relationship with his teacher!
9) "Thunderstruck Parts 1 & 2" - Tristan and Miles have a 'Rom Com' moment in the rain.
I simply love this scene. And I'm incredibly jealous it never happened to Marco. Or me.

Everyone's got a secret at Degrassi. But if one thing's for sure, they don't stay secrets for long.
1. "Rumors and Reputations"
Emma spreads a rumor that Liberty is having an affair with Mr. Armstrong.
Emma inadvertently spread a huge rumor about Liberty, when in reality all she saw was Mr. Armstrong encouraging Liberty to work through her learning disability, dyscalculia.
2. "Accidents Will Happen" - Part Two
Manny gets pregnant with Craig's child.
Manny tried to keep her pregnancy news under wraps, but when a vengeful Ashley announced it to the entire caf, it all became too much for her.
3. "Bark At The Moon"
Paige begins to have a relationship with Mr. Olliander... a teacher.
Tired of avoiding each other, Paige and Mr. O made their secret relationship official. *Spoiler alert* Things did not end well. But they never do when you DATE YOUR TEACHER! (Plz, don't do it.)
Emma hooks up with Jay at the infamous Ravine.
Emma shocked us all! There are no words, really.
5. "Heart Like Mine"
KC's Basketball coach crosses the line.
K.C. need to blow off some steam. But we're not sure hiring a prostitute was the best solution for him. Totally inappropriate basketball coach alert!
6. "All Falls Down"
Alli almost hooking up with Owen for fifty bucks.
At Casino night Alli cries because Drew cheated on her, so Owen offers her money if she hooks up with him. Sav walks in on Owen pressuring Alli in the boiler room.
7. "Should've Said No"
Clare and Jake are secretly hooking up, but then they get a surprise of their own.
Clare's mom and Jake's dad sit them both down and tell them they are dating. Hmm... do they know that Clare and Jake are also in a relationship?
Becky finds out that Zoe was raped by her brother, and now has to choose between her family and what is right. Will she tell the policeor not?
9. "Smells Like Teen Spirit"
Who is Clare's baby daddy?
In the bathroom Alli confronts Clare about being pregnant, but Clare doesn't reveal who the father is. Does she actually know?
10. "I'll Be Missing You"
Who is sending Zoe threats about Degrassi Nudes?
At the Cheerleader's bake sale Zoe gets delivered a creepy doll that has a note, indicating that an outsider knows that the cheerleaders started Degrassi Nudes. Let the paranoia begin.

From prom to carnivals, to fashion shows to theme nights, school events at Degrassi guarantee a double dose of drama. Relive these iconic memories as Stefan Brogren (aka Principal Simpson) highlights his Top 10 Degrassi School Event Moments!
1) "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" Degrassi's 80's themed dance.
Jimmy as Michael Jackson... right before the break-dancing mishap.
Shooting this episode was a definite blast from the past. I loved seeing The Next Generation actors dressed up as icons from MY generation--and of course I nailed it as Duran Duran's Simon Le Bon. Right?
2) "The Power Of Love" Degrassi goes Bollywood and the school catches fire.
Creating a real fire on the set of Degrassi was an adventure! My favorite part of the shoot? The entire school runs to safety, while Mr. Simpson is caught in the sprinklers. Great.
3) "West End Girls" Paige and Manny arrive in the same dress and Kevin Smith finally gets to take Caitlin Ryan to prom.
Degrassi has had its fair share of proms gone wrong--and this is definitely one of them. Manny's dress mishap and Paige's epic rant both culminate to make a next-level funny episode. Oh yeah, and guest star Kevin Smith is pretty funny too.
4) "We Built This City" Natasha Bedingfield performs at Degrassi's prom.
One of the coolest parts of my job? Working with the many fantastic musicians featured on Degrassi. Special guest star Natasha Bedingfield sings "Pocketful of Sunshine" at Degrassi's prom and puts my real life prom memories to shame.
5) "All Falls Down" -- Part 2 It's Vegas night and Degrassi goes into lockdown.
Vegas night at Degrassi equals the boiling point of season ten. After Alli goes to the boiler room with Owen, Holly J strips for Sav and Fitz pulls a knife on Eli--I realized that playing a principal is a lot easier than being one!
6) "Dead And Gone" -- Part 2 Degrassi's prom night; Vince shoots Adam.
One of Degrassi's most dramatic events. Gun violence in schools was an important story we wanted to tell--and thanks to the incredibly talented cast, this episode stands out as a season eleven highlight to Degrassi fans... and me!
7) "In The Cold Cold Night" -- Part 2 Fiona throws Degrassi's first ever Frostival Carnival, an unforgettable end-of-semester celebration.
If it's a first for Degrassi Community School; it's a first for all of us on set, too. Setting up and shooting a carnival in the studio's parking lot was a bit of a circus--but the final product made it all worthwhile. So did the free rides and cotton candy. Plus, this episode was one of our first glimpses at Fimogen. What's not to love?
8) "Degrassi: The Time Of My Life" It's prom night at Degrassi; Eli and Clare win prom King and Queen and decide prom night is "the night."
My favorite past time? Rooting for EClare. So naturally I shed a tear (or two) when Clare doesn't accept her rightful title as Eli's prom queen. Luckily, they make up... and all is right in the world again.
9) "You Got Me" It's Degrassi's Beach Bash! A sleepless Drew strips naked and jumps into a fake pool.
Degrassi's Beach Bash brings two words to mind. Luke Bilyk. Luke is always up to the challenge--even if that means stripping down to his boxers and falling in a wading pool!
10) "Outta My Head" Degrassi's fashion show; Imogen makes a plea for Jack's heart.
In this heart-warming scene, Imogen makes a grand gesture at Degrassi's big fashion show to win Jack's forgiveness--and unveils her line of clothes made from recycled garbage? Respect.

1) Emma Nelson's Dolphin Pants
Inspirational. Iconic. Fashionable. Aquatic.
2) Manny's Thong with Low-Rise Jeans
Manny Santos knew how to turn heads with her low-rise jeans and thong. #Trendsetter.
3) New Year, New Look, New Paige
Paige is the only girl who could wear sunglasses inside, hun.
4) Clare's Uniform
Private school uniform Clare is iconic Clare.
5) Spinner's Hair
It's fun knowing which season of Degrassi you're on based on Spin's hair!
Also Season 4:
6) Goth Phases: Ellie, Ashley, Eli
3 Goth phases. 1 school. Endless possibilities for the color black.
7) Jenna's Top at Prom
Sometimes even crowned Degrassi royalty have wardrobe malfunctions.
8) Imogen's Bra
Who knew protesting the school dress code could be so fashion forward?
9) Fiona's Headband
Blair Waldorf vs Fiona Coyne: the ultimate battle of headbands.
10) Zig's Sleeveless Shirts
Do Zig's arms ever get cold? No but really, do they?

You are the company you keep, right? Well, Degrassi's made a few famous friends over the years. Check out these familiar faces in Degrassi's Top 10 Celebrity Cameos!
1) Pete Wentz and Cassadee Pope, Degrassi Goes Hollywood
When Ellie ran into Craig with Fall Out Boy's Pete Wentz and Hey Monday's Cassadee Pope in Hollywood, it was kind of a big deal. Apparently, Craig's new life in LA came with new pop-punk musician friends and apparently all it took was introducing them to Ketchup Chips. Seems easy enough... right?!
2) Jason Mewes and Kevin Smith, Degrassi Goes Hollywood
When Manny attended a speaking event hosted by these two funnymen, she landed a Hollywood audition in Jason Mewes' directorial debut. It was a huge opportunity, which eventually caused major drama between her and Paige (#FrememiesForever), but it all ended up working out in the end because... whatever it takes!
3) "Vivica A Fox and Kelly Carlson, Degrassi Goes Hollywood
Marco had been in Hollywood for less than a day when he thought he spotted Ashton Kutcher and his famous trucker hat. Good thing these two fabulous and famous actresses stopped by to let him know that, no, it couldn't have been Ashton. He had done away with that trend months ago...
4) Billy Ray Cyrus, "The Power of Love"
Picture this: It's the last dance of the year for Degrassi, and Jimmy wants it to be perfect. He springs for dinner and a limo, but things get a little hairy when their driver gets arrested. The driver in question happens to be none other than our favorite champion of mullets, Billy Ray, who in one fell swoop managed to do the unthinkable: Break Drake's achy-breaky heart. (Say that three times fast.)
5) Adam Lazzara, "What's It Feel Like to Be a Ghost?" - Part 2
In this Season 6 episode, Adam and his iconic band Taking Back Sunday played a concert at Toronto University. This was a pretty serious episode, as Ellie missed her interview with the band because she was too distracted by Craig and the drug problem he didn't know he had. In the midst of the intensity, though, the band performed their unforgettable hit "MakeDamnSure" and we made sure to never forget how epically blonde Adam's hair was.
6) Jay Manuel, Degrassi Takes Manhattan
Who could forget that time Holly J. ran into Jay Manuel on the streets of New York City? It was the first day of her summer internship and the America's Next Top Model legend offered some sage career advice and the ultimate compliment: He loved her shoes. BRB, gonna file this one under fierce.
7) Shay Mitchell, "Up Where We Belong"
Before she became famous as Emily on Pretty Little Liars, Shay Mitchell made a guest appearance on Degrassi as a model who dropped out of school. Remember when Mia felt pressure to choose between school and her modeling career? Well, I think we can all agree that Shay's advice may have been a bit... ill-advised.
8) Keke Palmer "Spring Fever"
Sav was nursing a broken heart over spring break (thanks, Holly J.) when something unexpected happened. Pop star Keke Palmer swooped in to make him forget all about it. Even though it wasn't until Keke stepped on stage that Sav realized exactly who she was, it totally helped take the pain away. And, ah, wouldn't it be nice if we all had a famous pop star to help us get over our exes?
9) Chaz Bono, "Tonight, Tonight" - Part 2
This cameo was an unforgettable moment in Adam's ground-breaking storyline about gender identity. When Adam got WhisperHug disqualified from a Battle of the Bands competition (in which Chaz played a celebrity guest judge), he sought guidance from the transgender activist. Adam was in the thick of his journey at this time -- reeling from his rocky relationship with Becky, coping with the everyday struggles of being FTM (female-to-male), figuring out the consequences of packing your jeans with a cucumber... and Chaz offered advice for coping with the pain. It was one of those moments where Degrassi just nailed it.
10) Natasha Bedingfield, "We Built This City"
Thanks to Liberty's award-winning essay in a radio contest, the Class of 2007 scored the pop star as their prom entertainment. Lest you were too distracted by all the drama between Liberty and Damian to remember, Natasha performed her hits "Pocketful of Sunshine" and "Unwritten" while swiftly reminding us just how satisfying it is to belt "FELL THE RAIN ON YOUR SKIN!"
There you have it, Degrassians! Can you say #SquadGoals? What were your favorite Degrassi cameo memories? We couldn't fit every celeb appearance in this list, so share yours in the comments!

As much as we would like it to be, high school isn't type of place where kids sit in a circle and sing kumbaya all day. Not everyone gets along. Whether they were enemies, frenemies, rivals for former best friends, the Degrassi students have had some epic duels. Check them out below!
1) Paige Vs. Manny
"I doubt your mouth is connected to your tiny, shriveled, boy-obsessed brain."
Paige got pretty stressed out when her student-teacher fling began to unravel. The result? Some seriously harsh words for Manny.
2) Holly J Vs. Fiona
"This is New York Holly J, bitch!"
Before they became BFFs, Holly J and Fiona were, um what's the opposite of BFFs? It got so crazy, Holly J locked Fiona in a closet. No one gets in a Sinclair's way!
3) Maya Vs. Zo
"You keep stealing all my people. Get your own people."
Maya and Zoe's rivalry hit an all-time high when certain beverages got involved.
4) Emma Vs. Darcy
"Pretty soon, everyone's going to figure out what a pathetic liar you are."
Emma was not going to sit back and let people slander Mr. Simpson's name!
5) Marisol Vs. Drew and Bianca
"Oh, look who it is: The Liar, the Bitch, and her Slutty Wardrobe!"
Marisol laid down a classic burn on Drew and Bianca when Katie was too hurt to speak. Ultimate best friend.
6) Jimmy Vs. Tobey
"You're a fake computer hacker. You're a fake rap fan. You're just 100% fake."
Don't . Cross. Jimmy. Even worse, don't lie to him.
7) Tristan Vs. Miles
"You are a terrible person. You use and abuse people and one day you're gonna wake up and realize you have nobody."
Miles was playing games, and Tristan was not going to stick around for more. #RIPtriles
8) Manny Vs. Holly J
"Rumor has it, you have webbed toes."
Manny clapped back when Holly J tried to spread vicious rumors about her.
9) Liberty Vs. JT and Toby
"Some advice: Find a dictionary and look up 'pathetic.'"
Liberty served up some truth pie for these two. But let's be honest, Lib isn't known for sparing people's feelings. #SorryNotSorry
10) Zo Vs. Becky
"What's that called when your boyfriend gets his best girl friend knocked up? Oh, I think it's called baggage."
The shade, the shade. Zoe was not going to let Becky block her from joining Power Cheer. Was it her place to tell Becky that Drew was the alleged father of Clare's unborn baby? No. But you can't disagree that she slayed her!

Before Aubrey Graham started "running through the six with his woes," he was straight-shooting, lovable Jimmy Brooks on Degrassi: The Next Generation. Let's take a quick trip down memory lane with our old pal Jimmy.
10) In Season 1, when Ashley and Jimmy's relationship hit the eight-month mark, it obviously meant it was time to take it the "next step," right?
Ultimately, Jimmy and Ashley mutually agreed that they just weren't ready for that level of commitment yet.
Awww. How cute.
9) We catch a first glimpse of Jimmy's rapping skills during Season 3, when he drops a beat with pal, Spinner.
Unfortunately, Marco and Craig don't seem to think that Jimmy and Spin's free-styling skills are smooth enough for their super "alt" band, Downtown Sasquatch.
Feel Craig's terror.
8) Degrassi's halls have seen their fair share of heart-wrenching moments. One of the most earth-shattering tragedies is the infamous school shooting.
Jimmy's paralysis teaches everyone at Degrassi that one decision can change someone's life forever.
7) However, Jimmy's rough time only makes him more determined to power through adversity.
But even in difficult moments, Jimmy continues to drop hardcore wisdom onto his friends. For instance, when he gives Craig love advice from his HOSPITAL BED.
Tell 'em, Jimmy.
6) Or pretty much any time Jimmy drops hard-hitting truth bombs onto virtually anyone.
When he confronts Derek about his lack of respect on the basketball courts.
Every single time he manages to diss Spinner.
Okay, maybe not always the most hard-hitting.
Even when he makes this face.
5) When Jimmy triumphantly returns to Degrassi, the gang is so excited to welcome him back. But good ol' Jimmy is just too humble to make it into a huge deal.
4) In Season 5, Jimmy confronts the fact that basketball isn't his biggest dream anymore. More admiring, he's finally honest with his #1 supporter about it: his dad.
3) Jimmy constantly proves that his talents surpass his ability to shoot hoops. He's basically Degrassi's unofficial Renaissance Man.
Let's glaze over the fact that he painted Ellie into the mural, instead of his long-term girlfriend at the time.
Can't forget when Jimmy and Spinner decide to start their own graphic t-shirt business.
Ugh, just look at how happy he is.
Also, when Jimmy moonlights as the guitarist for Downtown Sasquatch. Seriously though, Downtown Sasquatch.
2) His sweet, sensitive and supportive side also makes him total boyfriend material.
All about those Jimmy-Hazel relationship goals.
So supportive of Ashley. Swooooooooon.
1) Throughout his time at Degrassi, Jimmy has gracefully proved that he can tackle any obstacle thrown his way.
He always finds a way to make it through. Whatever it takes.
