  1. Something on the site isn't working for me...what should I do?!
    First of all, relax. Next, try the following...
    1. Make sure you have the latest versions of the following software on your computer (don't worry - they're all free!):
      Macromedia Flash - you'll need this to play some of our games. If you're having problems, you can download it here
      Macromedia Shockwave - Some of the games in our Games section might require this. You can get it here
    2. Make sure you have cookies enabled. Cookies are tiny text files which stay on your computer, and they allow us to keep you logged in so that you can do things like play games and post on the message boards. This is something that should be enabled in your browser by default, but you may need to ask someone for help if you're not sure how to check.
    3. Make sure you have JavaScript enabled in your web browser. Again, it should be on by default, but someone else who uses your computer may have turned it off. Different browsers have different ways of enabling it, so you may have to ask someone for help.
    4. If you are using an internet security program on your computer, it may mistakenly block some features of our site. You definitely shouldn't turn off your security program, but you should add TeenNick.com to the program as a trusted site. Different programs have different ways of doing this, so you may have to ask someone for help.
    5. For Avatar High, Avatar Prom and Avatar University, make sure you have
      -any popup blockers turned off
      -any ad blockers turned off
      Otherwise, you can't play.
    6. To watch our video, you need to be in the U.S. We don't have rights to show videos to non-U.S. users, unfortunately.
    7. If all else fails, try rebooting your computer. You'd be amazed at how many problems are solved by doing this!

  2. My login doesn't work / I forgot my username or password.
    Don't panic!

    Just try using the "Forgot your password?" link on the login page. Enter your email address and we will email your password right to you.
    If it's still not working, take a peek at our posting rules. Your username cannot include personally identifiable information like: your last name, full birthdate, phone number, address, ZIP code, or school name
    It should also not include curse words or other things that violate our posting rules.
    Since usernames that break our rules are deleted, your username may have been deleted if it broke the rules.

  3. I registered for an account on TeenNick.com, or I changed my email address to an existing account, and there was a message saying that I would be sent an email. I never received the email...how come?!
    First, verify that you gave us the correct email address. Even if you're sure you did, double-check just to be safe. Make sure everything is spelled right and that there are no extra spaces, dashes, etc.

    If you're sure that you gave us the right email address, then try clicking the tab marked “Account” in your profile and click the Email Verification box to re-send the verification email. The verification email is generally sent right after you request it, but sometimes there's a "hiccup" in the system, and the email may have not been sent the first time.
    If you're still not getting the email, then it is likely that your email provider or program might be blocking the email from us, or marking it as spam. Unfortunately, there are too many email programs out there for us to give instructions for all of them, but there are a few things you can check:

    Most email programs and webmail services have spam protection turned on, and they might be moving our email into a spam or bulk mail folder. Check those types of folders and see if our email accidentally ended up there. If so, there should be a way to mark it as "not spam," so that in the future you'll get our emails in your regular inbox. You also might have the setting enabled to delete all emails instantly which the program thinks are spam or bulk mail. Try disabling this feature for a little while, and then click on the "re-send the verification email" link in your profile on TeenNick.com. If that works, then again, make sure you mark our email as "not spam."
    Oh, and don't worry - with all this talk of spam, remember that the only email you will get from us is to verify your email address, so we can create your account and you can post on the message boards. We won't send you anything else unless you tell us we can in your profile.

    Also, some email programs/services use something called a "whitelist", and any emails from people on that list will always get through.   Some programs are set up to only allow emails from people on the whitelist. Check with whoever is in charge of your email program, and make sure you add emails from "TeenNick.com" to your allowed list.
    If none of these steps help, then let us know.

  4. How can I change my display name, profile picture or password?

    You can change your display name, profile picture or password anytime.
    To change your display name or profile picture go to your Profile Page and click on “Account”. From there click the tab marked  “Personal” and follow the instructions.
    To change your password, go to your Profile page, click on “Account” and follow the instructions.

  6. Hey! What happened to my avatar and creds?

    Hi! Welcome back. Basically... we revamped the site completely. It was time. But it meant getting rid of things like avatars and creds. We know some of you worked really hard to collect those creds and avatar wardrobes, and we're sorry for any sadness this is causing you. It just wasn't possible to keep that system in place with our new system. It had to happen.

    As for your blogs and mails and other things on the old site that you really want back, we're sorry to tell you that those are irretrievably gone. We knew it would be upsetting to some people and we did our absolute best to warn everyone -- we sent a newsletter, we wrote a bunch of blogs, we made a big deal about it on the site -- but we know not everyone found out in time to make copies of their stuff. Again, for any sadness that this causes you, we apologize.

    As anyone who has ever lost a hard-drive or accidentally hit "delete all" on the texts on their cell phone can tell you, life goes on even as things we wanted to keep forever fade away. Our memories live on in our hearts.

  7. What are followers? What does it mean to be followed?
    When you follow someone, you see what they’re up to, including when they post comments and make new friends. Likewise, when someone follows you, they can see what you're up to. You can control who can follow you under the “Privacy” tab in your profile. You can stop following, or being followed, by anyone at anytime. Click on ‘view all’ under the “I’m following” or “ My Followers” and you can edit them from there. You can also block someone from re-following you by using the "block" button.

    You can also decide who can see your profile -- everyone, or just your friends -- by checking the box in the “Privacy” tab in your profile.

  8. Why did my post get removed from the message boards? What was wrong with it?
    First, check your profile for your post and the reason why it was disapproved. Click on the reason to see an explanation.

    We have a set of rules about what can and can't end up on the message boards, in order to protect people's safety and keep the conversation appropriate. Those rules are spelled out right here. So if you're confused about what was reject-worthy in your post, check the rules for some insight. You could always remove the rule-breaking part and try your post again!

    We receive a lot of emails and can't respond to all of them, so first make sure your question isn't already answered on this page (we won't be able to respond to questions which are).
